Jennifer and Lynda Lopez Lead “Global Mom Relay” for UN Foundation
March 8 – May 8, 2013
The Lopez Family Foundation is honored to support the United Nations Foundation Global Mom Relay, a first-of-its-kind virtual relay with a goal of improving the lives of women and children around the globe. The Lopez sisters co-chaired the event in the esteemed company of Arianna Huffington, Elizabeth Gore, and Sharon D’Agostino.
The online relay empowered women everywhere to lead a fundraising race through social media, cheered on by a live conversation about motherhood and poverty. The Global Mom Relay was designed by the United Nations Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, BabyCenter, The Huffington Post, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the UN’s Every Woman Every Child movement, which has pledged to save the lives of 16 million women and children by 2015.
Every time a relay post was shared through Facebook, Twitter, or email, Johnson & Johnson and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $5 towards the cause. The proceeds will go towards organizations dedicated to the health and empowerment of women and children around the world.
The Lopez Family Foundation is pleased to be a part of this incredible effort that raised over $500,000 and created a truly “global” conversation with people sharing from across all 50 states and 154 countries.
The Lopez Family Foundation understands the importance that mothers play in the ongoing health of their children and families. We operate on the firm belief that mothers around the world have the right to access those tools and services to keep their families strong. By supporting the Global Mom Relay, the Lopez Family Foundation continues to demonstrate our dedication to this important cause.
